Kit Prep and Inspection Page 1
Kit Initial Inspection
A couple weeks ago, the big brown truck (BBT) visited the Bandit household and dropped off my first
parts kit. I ordered a Grade III Imbel kit from
Dan's Sporting Goods and it arrived on the day promised. I went ahead and took advantage of Dan's
US made muzzle brake and pistol grip 1/2 price offer when ordering a kit. I was going to need them
anyways to be compliant with the law and as usual couldn't turn down a bargain. So, for $139 (shipped)
I got a very useable parts kit and 2 US parts to go towards the 7 total US parts I will need. The above
picture is what I was expecting to get and did but..
These items were thrown in as extras!!! At the same time I ordered the kit, I also ordered an additional 5
used 20rd mags that list for $6 ea. on the website. I was only charged $5 each. Needless to say, Dan's will
be getting more of my business. Thanks Dan!!!!
Dan's kits are the Chilean surplus Imbels that saw little action. Looking over the parts you can tell
these were carried alot, but shot very little. The exterior finish, if you can see past the cosmoline,
is scratched to hell and all finish forward of the handgaurds is totally GONE! Looking on the inside
though, shows pristine parts. Bore is nice and shiney and the rifling appears sharp. It's a shame I have
to replace the hammer, trigger and sear on this kit, because they are truly in great shape! The trigger felt
pretty good to my trigger control digit, with only a small amount of creep detected. Oh well... I wasn't
worried about outside finish of the kit, I plan to refinish the rifle anyways. The furniture will be replaced
with new Israeli handguards and buttstock, but the ones supplied with the kit could easily be used no problem.
So... I'll have some spare, useable parts for my next build. =)
A couple days later, the BBT showed up again and delivered my Gunplumber's Workbook and Video
combo from Gunthings.com. I also ordered a
buttstock and sight tool combo with this order to save a few extra $$$. At this time the parts
kit is stowed away while I dive into watching and studying the video and workbook. Now, where
did the wife put the microwave popcorn?!?!
